Our Director and Teacher

Director and TeacherElena Harrison has been a teacher all her working life. Born in Kharkov, Ukraine into a Russian speaking family, she graduated from the Foreign Languages Department of the Kharkov State University with a Bachelor’s degree in philology, teaching and translating.

Her teaching career began in School Number 3 in Kharkov, a specialist English language school where she had herself been a Gold Medal student. She was soon promoted to Head of English Studies in a different school. Winning a George Soros Foundation Scholarship she went to the USA and gained a postgraduate diploma as a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the East Carolina University.

After an internship at the United Nations in New York, Elena moved to Moscow as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Anglo-American School of Moscow. There she gained a first-hand insight into running a large international school. Next came an English language teaching job in Istanbul, Turkey, at Eyuboglu International School. This broadened Elena’s experience and gave her Teachinga good understanding of teaching to an international body of students.

After marriage to a British citizen, Elena moved with her husband to the UK and settled in Chelmsford. After a year working in Public Relations with a major American PR company at their office in London, Elena took time out to become a mother.

In 2006 she was offered a job which she still holds teaching Russian at the American School in London. Looking for other challenges and given her background in both teaching and educational administration, Elena took the initiative to become the Director of Chelmsford Russian School “Alyonushka”.
